Junior News Letter

Spring/Summer 2009

 

 

Year Ahead

The arrival of the light nights, in April, see a return to the water in a big way. There will be 3 sessions/week suitable for juniors: -

 

Saturday mornings 10.00 – training etc

Tuesday 6.00 pm Time trial nights – distances to suit your ability

Thursday 6.00 pm club group training, coaching and wider skills e.g. WW.

 

No beginners course will be run on Thursday evenings this year. This is to give more time to juniors who joined last year and to those wanting to develop/do white water etc.

 

Last year summer never arrived and some planned trips and activities were cancelled due to the weather. This year we hope to beat the weather and arrange day trips to: -

 

The Burrs – white water training river near Bury

Anglesey – sea canoeing at Rhoscolyn

 

More later in the year.

 

 

Family and Friends (of club members)

 

Saturday – 25th April from 10.00am – 2.00pm

 

Bring your friends/mum/dad/brother/sister/aunt/uncle etc (no pets please) to try canoeing FREE of charge.

 

Depending on numbers we will either run one session only from 10.00 or two sessions starting at 10.00 and another at 11.30.

There will be some food provided for lunch. If you want to contribute then please see Carol. If you just want to eat then the cost will be £2/person.

 

Please bring a change of warm clothes, towel, and footwear such as old trainers that secure on to your feet.

Club members will be going to all of these events – but we will need to work out which ones to go to as a group of juniors.

 

This years marathon racing season culminates in the National interclub finals called the Hasler Final to be held in Reading on the 27th September The top 4 clubs from each region race it out over a day to see who can be crowned the top club. There is an interclub competition for the Divisional (senior) races and also for the lightning’s. Last year we won the NW regional Lightning trophy and did well in the Hasler Final. This year we would like to do even better.

For divisional races you need to do 3 local races to qualify for the final.
