Conwy Ascent: Saturday 18th June
A ten mile tour from the sea, up the estuary, past Conwy castle and some great scenery, into the river Conwy to a village in the Conwy valley. You get carried up by the incoming tide along with lots of other people.
Warning! There is an entry fee and it can be a bit bumpy if the weather blows up. Speak to John for more information.
Shropshire Marathon race (Oswestry): Sunday 19th June
Make it an active weekend or just do this race. Great for lightnings and those looking to move up the marathon divisions. Carol has more information on this.
Cheshire ring, 96 miles of continuous fun! 25/26 June
NO SATURDAY JUNIOR SESSION – 25th JUNE
Teams are already arranged. This is a nonstop race around the canal circuit that “rings” the county of Cheshire. It is 96 miles long and has to be done as a single race. The start time is 10.00am on the Saturday with scheduled finish time of 8.00am the next day that means 22 hours and paddling all through the night. The team doing this are 5 K2’s. The crews are:
Carol Hatton and Roger Williams
Mark and Owain Williams
John and David Hatton
Struan Fishburn and Peter Bennett
Bob Scholey and Jake Oldfield-Connor
Although this may sound uninviting, Jean Ashley and Adele Blakeborough are aiming to do this in a K2 on their own without stopping!!
Dee Mile Swim: Wednesday 29th June
WE NEED YOU!
Don’t worry you don’t have to do it! We have been asked to provide safety cover again. The entry this year is 250, that’s 100 more than last year so we need ALL the volunteers we can get. You need to be able to paddle a plastic boat competently and manoeuvre it over to a struggling swimmer.
It’s a great event to be part of and we usually get rewarded with some gifts of tee shirts, towels, buffs etc from the Chester Tri Club who run the event.
Rafting trip: Saturday 2nd July
Enjoy the excitement of white water rafting on the River Tryweryn at Bala. Experience the infamous ‘graveyard’ & ski jump on the grade 3/4 river. Children must be over 12years of age. For more information contact Denise on d.oldfield@mypostoffice.co.uk.
CALLING ALL LIGHTNINGS!!
Lightning paddlers we need you!!
At the moment we are winning the North West lightning series but it’s very close between ourselves and Macclesfield. We need to get everyone to the last two races of the season at Macclesfield and Trentham (Stoke) if we can to have a chance of winning the NW Lightning Trophy
The races are:-
Macclesfield: Sunday 10th July
Trentham: Sunday 17th July
Contact Carol for details and arrangements.
Chester Weir wild water Race: Sunday 10th July
For the slightly more experienced paddler who can handle white water on Chester weir on their own there is the annual, half mile, dash down the weir.
This race can be done in any boat and consists of two runs of about half a mile from the Queens park rowing club to the bottom of the weir. John or Colin has more details.
National Marathon Championships: Worcester 27/28 August
Last year we ran this event at Chester. Now it’s our turn to watch other people do all the work and make the bacon butties.
There are two races, one on each day for everyone. One in K2 and one in K1. We aim to camp overnight and do both races but you can always just turn up for a day and do one race. Worcester is about 2 hours away. The Nationals is run according to age group so there are Championship events for Lightnings at under 10 and under 12 in K1 and Hoddy K2s. Then there are the main classes for Under 14, 16 and 18. Watch out for some Chester paddlers in the over XX’s age group.
Hasler Final Bedford: 2nd October
This is the National Inter Club finals.
The top 4 clubs from each region of the county meet up to race it out and see who is the best club in the country. Chester’s best place is second, so we have a lot to live up to. To qualify you must complete 3 divisional races.
Lightning paddlers can enter and race at the final for the Geoff Sanders trophy. The points from our local regional competitions are carried through the final and we get double points for each paddler in the final. Last year we came 5th in the country so it would be great to get some of the lightning paddlers to the final.
