Dee Mile Swim: Wednesday 29th June

A big thank-you from the Tri Club to all that helped with the Dee Mile, they were very impressed with all the canoeists that helped ... so impressed next year they want to run a junior race too, and open the senior race up to 500 swimmers .... ohhhhhhhh no!!! Congratulations to Ros Clarke and Dave Bradburn who swam the race, Ros finished in 28.57 (46th) and Dave in 30.43(68th) a fantastic result for Dave in his first ever open water swim, and I'm not even sure he'd ever swam a mile non-stop before!

Tryweryn Rafting trip 'A fantastic day out organised by Denise'

Denise one of the juniors Mum's is organising a White Water rafting trip on the Tryweryn

On Sat 2nd July a number of Chester Canoe Club members and their families descended on Bala for a morning of white water rafting down the Tryweryn.  The group of 21 adults and children were divided into three rafts and after getting sorted out with wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets we were driven up to the chipper for the start of our descent.  Alistair, James & Evie were our guides for the day and after a briefing session on how to paddle the rafts and what to do if we capsized!! We apprehensively took to the water.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience we sailed down the ‘Graveyard’ with ease, went down the ‘ski slope’ backwards and even broke out at ‘ Mrs Davis’s bridge’ and none of this caused us any concern.  We got stuck on rocks sometimes for quite a while and surfed on the waves outside the Water sports Centre.  We splashed the other crews on the way down and occasionally bumped into them accidentally of course.

At the end we loaded the rafts onto a trailer and back up for a couple more runs.  We got completely soaked by the waves but everyone was smiling.   Nobody fell in – thank goodness! Although we did see someone fall in off one of the other rafts.
We had fantastic weather – the sun shone and after the rafting we had a picnic on the grass and the youngsters played games.  We viewed the photos taken by our personal photographers for the day – John, Maggie & Nicks dad.  We could bore you for hours with all our photos but attached are a couple.  Thanks on behalf of everyone to Denise for organising the brilliant experience!

Weekly TT and Barrel Runs

The last time trial had a poor turnout with no-one opting to do the portages. Perhaps too many people were still recovering from the Cheshire ring the previous weekend. However by this Tuesday things were back to normal with the barrel races. Liam Freery showed improved fitness and confidence by completing all three races for the first time while John Hatton had the fastest time of the night, also for the first time.
Results attached.

Macclesfield Hasler 10th July

Carol Hatton went with some of the lightnings to Macclesfield - they looked fantastic in their NEW Club Chester vests. They got some good results - Rona Fishburn won the U12 Girls, Maggie Corr won the U10 girls, with Joe Corr 3rd in the U12 Boys and Tom Mitchell taking part in his first lightning race coming in 4th. It was a great Chester team effort. Mark & Owain Williams were also there and won Div 7 K2. Well done to the juniors again!

Chester WWR 10th July

I haven't got the results yet as Colin is still sorting them out. Halfway through the second runs they had the most enormous rainstorm which caused the sewers to flood into the river and they had to abandon the race. It was a good turnout for Chester with some of the seniors taking part - Roger, Steve, Jason, Simon, and the juniors David, Struan, Nick & Dan. The results should be out soon will keep you posted!

Trentham Hasler 17th July

Next weekend is Trentham - so hopefully we will get a good crew from Chester going, email Phil@Trenthamecanoeclub.co.uk. if you want to enter.

Also if if you need a New club vest please ask Jean or Carol, they are really nice and are guaranteed to make you paddle faster!!
