Hi Everyone

Hare 'n Hounds Race 5

The sunshine on Saturday brought plenty of paddlers out for the 5th Hare ‘n Hounds, all Chester members but with the added bonus of Chris Chorley (Steve's Son). Trentham were at the Sprint Regatta. We had a great race in perfect conditions, with all of the juniors joining forces with the seniors in the longer race. We raced from the road bridge up to Eccleston Ferry then back to the club. We had a slight hi-cup at the start as Dave Ashley the official starter, got carried away in the spring sunshine and continued up stream! However as soon as he saw paddlers coming towards him he hot-footed it back and had a very fast paddle back to the finish with his daughter Kate.

Jess on scratch, soon took the lead and held us all off until the Red House, it was very close with all of us coming together by the time we hit the Sailing Club. Roger overtook John Hatton and moved into the lead with Bob just behind. Jean and Adele were closing fast with Chris Chorley on their wash, he pushed hard to overtake them but the K2 'Queens' held him off!

Their were a few battles further down the Field too with John H just a second ahead of Bob and young David also second ahead of Parky (must ask Carol what she's feeding her two boy's on ... its making them fly!!), at the finish too Margaret and Helen fought it out to the line!

Everyone had a great race and young James who paddled K2 with Carol achieved his own special Goal by getting up to Eccleston ... a first for him .. well done James!

Also well done to Roger who now leads the Series after doing 4 of the 5 races.

We are almost half way through the Series now with Race 6 on Sun 15th May, its great race practise and we even celebrated with home made soup and bacon butties so come and join us. June, July and August Races will be on Thursday nights.

Also don't forget Tuesday night's time trials and Barrel Sessions, plus the launch of the New Web Site is imminent we've got Cheshire Ring Teams lined up ... so lots happening!

Wild Water Selection Races this weekend so Good Luck to the C2 Boys!

I have also had this email from Phil at Trentham if any one is interested?

Hi Everyone
I have sent the note below to my race paddlers suggesting a weaver descent type tour next Sunday. Any one either interested or
got any advice?
Cheers
Phil
The river weaver can be paddled from Winsford to Runcorn, in previous
years a race was run The Weaver Descent. but sadly this year its not
running Some club members did it last year and it is quite a good
challenge. Top paddlers can cover the distance in under 3 hours. It took
us nearly 4 last year paddling fairly hard and non stop.

I am contemplating doing it as a training session next Sunday as a
slightly more relaxed paddle with even the odd snack stop thrown in on
the way :-)

The water is an easy open navigation river. There are a number of fairly long portages. access points on a couple can be quite difficult. The river can be exposed and windy so this can make it feel like a long hard paddle! There are access points where support crews can meet us if we can find some volunteers! Boats will be race boats, k1 or k2s.
I estimate we would take 5-6 hours paddling as a tour, its about the same as 13 laps of the lake.

Anyone interested? I know its Easter Sunday and you all plan to be at
home eating big dinners and Easter eggs! but it would be nice to
get a long paddle in and it gives a taste of events like the endeavour
challenge or Cheshire ring races.
Cheers Phil

I'M KEEN .... AND DAVE SAID HE WOULD HELP OUT

any more takers from Chester?
