Hi Everyone
What a fantastic weekend for the
Cheshire Ring Teams .... both Teams
certainly put Chester Canoe Club on the
map by producing excellent results!
The K2 x 10 relay went of at 9.10, I saw
the biggest smile on David's face he
went off like a Duracell bunny .... I
just new there would be a Team of 10
bunnies that went going to ever run out
of power .... they just got stronger and
stronger they had estimated 21hrs but by
50 miles it almost looked like they
would be doing a day light run! They had
to call the time keeper to say they
would be early ....... by at least
5hours! They thrashed there opposition
Macclesfield (17hrs 35mins) and came
home in 16hrs 22 mins time ... a
brilliant team effort.....Gold medals
all round
A big thanks to your support Crews and
Bob's breakdown of the course ... and
Carols Team management ... well done!!!
Maybe food for thought ....something to
go at for next year the K2 x 10 course
record is 14hrs 26mins ....!!!!!!
Adele and I were also very pleased with
our result ..... though I did hit the
darkside, when I couldn't get any food
or drink down between 50 -70 miles,
lucky I had my good partner in crime ...
and vice versa as Adele's low patch came
later ... so great team work and
couldn't of done it without our
FANTASTIC SUPPORT ... Dave Kate and
Adrian! (that's more brownie points I
owe them!!! We Won Gold medals to
finished the course in 19hrs 27 mins the
fastest K2 of the day (including the
men) a new ladies record and the second
fastest K2 run ever, the record was set
in 2009 by Peter and Lee Howson 17hrs
37mins .... so a bit of work to do their
then!
I've attached the Results ... so proud
of Chester Canoe Club!
Its been a great boost to the canoe club
all the juniors were in Div 9 at the
start of this year, they have joined in
our sessions and trained hard, and they
have been promoted to Div 6 and 3 Div
7's, and to do the ring .. wow! They
have gained so much respect from our
senior paddlers, it has also built a
bridge between the 2 sections ..... us
seniors cant hang about now the juniors
are hot on our tails!!!I
Malcolm Shead's from Trentham had a
fantastic race too K1 solo silver Medal
in 20hrs 38mins, he had several Trentham
supporters following him so we've thrown
the gauntlet to Trentham for next year!
The K1 solo record was smashed by 3
hours Stuart West, Worcester .... 15hrs
27 mins, he paddled past us at 70 miles
and he looked like he was in a sprint
race .....what an animal .....awesome
time!!!!
No doubt you'll hear lots of stories and
see lots of pictures in the next week or
two .... the true nitty gritty will come
out ... though Adele and I will be
keeping a few of ours secret ..... just
to keep our dignity
!

Cheshire Ring Race 2011
This year has been a bumper year in
several ways. We had one of the largest fields for years – 18 boats and 59
competitors. They travelled from nearby and afar - Scotland, Bristol and Suffolk
- to be there. We saw the greatest disparity between fastest and slowest we are
likely to have for many a year – 15hrs 27mins 27secs to 33hrs 8mins 40secs. We
hosted the collectively oldest (sorry, I meant most experienced) team in the MAD
Gentlemen. Two new course records were set in the K1 solo and K1 4 paddler
relay. We experienced a damp, chilly start, on Saturday morning, followed by
blazing sunshine for the prize-giving on Sunday. And even a wasp attack on
Banbury B!
It was a good natured race, with no
reported complaints, even though the Raynet volunteer spent 7 hours at Tunnel
Top waiting for our 2 Lancaster University student competitors to drag the
plastic double Tourer to a grinding halt and retirement; and Maureen and
Rosemary, our erstwhile timekeepers, spent from 1 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. on the canal
bank. Indeed they experienced the apologies and contrition of Chester C.C. who
took 5hrs 18mins off their target time and in doing so got the timekeepers out
of bed much earlier than planned.
By the time you receive this I trust
that everyone is home, fed and getting the rest that you need. Congratulations
to all of the paddlers and well done to all support crews. I hope we see you
again soon.
