Hi Everyone,
Well summer is almost over ....where has it gone? The nights are
starting to draw in .....but its good to see everyone paddling
really well, and making the most of the daylight before we get
our winter lights out, and I start to think of a winter training
programme for any 'takers' on a Thursday night
National Marathon Championships
The main news of the week is to congratulate the 'Chester
Marathon Team' on a fantastic weekend at the Nationals, we not
only had plenty of sweat, but lots of laughs and fun
too ...... and on top of that managed to come a very credible
15th out of 47 teams in the National Marathon points! It was a
fantastic effort from our ...... (should I say it) 'Veteran
Team' ... apart from David and Jake who brought the average age
down considerably! Everyone raced very well and we had no
capsizes (lucky they all happened in training on the Thursday
before) . It was
rather choppy for most of the races, due to the wind and the
amount of entries .... David and Jake raced in the largest field
of the day with 40 under 14's in their race! The sun shone for
most of the weekend and it was great to see
Chester paddlers in
lots of races, and our supporters giving us plenty of
encouragement and tips along the way especially at the portage!
We had a great BBQ ... drank (a little) wine and even ate
chocolate birthday cake .. but the highlight of the weekend was
watching 'the last of the Summer wine' Trio erecting the oldest
tent on the campsite .... lucky it didn't rain and they all
survived the night!

Tuesday Nights report by Bob Scholey
(results attached). Numbers are picking up after all the summer
holidays people have been taking and the break seems to have
benefited everyone. Both barrel races and time trials have been
littered with fast times and personal bests.
In the last time trial Bob Scholey recorded his best ever time
and was convinced he had seen off Jean Ashley only to discover
that she had gone even faster - what a blow! In the overall
standings Ray Stamp leads the div 7-9 category from Jake
Oldfield while in the div 4-6 section Roger Williams is miles
ahead.
Last Tuesday's barrel race saw the largest entry of the year.
David Hatton and Jake Oldfield did the event in
K2 for the first time and
recorded a very fast 12m 25s. Overall the junior, ladies and
men's categories are still lead by David Hatton, his mum Carol
and Roger Williams respectively.
